What to Wear: New Years NYC

New Years Eve is the party of the year. Whether you are going out or not, you want to look your best ringing in 2009.
This look works best for a cold climate like New York. Pairing leather pants, a slinky black tank and the hottest shoes of the season makes a sexy canvas for some blinging jewelry. Top it all off with a short fur that will keep you cozy as you go from party to party and a slick black crocodile clutch. Don't forget your 2009 glasses!
Topshop fringe gloves, Helmut Lang leather pants, Vanessa Bruno tank, vintage fur, Nicholas Kirkwood lattice front shoes, Lucien Pellat-Finet black crocodile skull clutch, Iosselliani stacked rings and Tom Binns vintage rhinestone bib necklace.

Have you Heard: Mayle

Designed by former model, Jane Mayle, the Mayle clothing and handbag line is the place to find unusual and unique additions to your wardrobe.
All the handbags share a similar shape which is both practical and chic. I love the way that they all look different but you can tell that they are all Mayle. By defining her look and shape, Mayle handbags have become known among the fashion world as a great non-IT bag.
Unfortunately Jane Mayle has decided to stop designing her line after 10 years. If you want to get you hands on a few pieces head over to La Garconne, they have the best selection.
Obsession #2: Harem Pants

Ever since I got my first pair of Comme des Garcons harem pants 2 years ago I have been completely obsessed. At this point I own 4 pairs of these wonderful pants, 2 of which are the exact same just different sizes allowing me to wear them fitted or relaxed. I know that this is a trend right now but I plan on wearing this style the rest of my life. They are uber flattering and extremely comfortable. I wear them on the days when I want to wear pajamas and I am just as cozy.
Rick Owens and Comme des Garcons are the pinnacle of harem pants but if you don't want to spend that much Zara is the next best thing. You could try to find the CDG for H&M trousers on eBay but you might end up paying a lot more for them. Also, a great pair of high waisted harem style pants are now available at Urban Oufitters.
Above (L-R) Alexander McQueen crepe harem pants, Zero Maria Cornejo curved Ori pants, Comme des Garcons for H&M, Rick Owens harem-style pants, Splendid jersey harem pants. All available at Net-a-Porter or La Garconne.

Style: Jewelry

I am the type of person who wears a lot of jewelry on a daily basis. I like my bracelets chunky, my necklace layered and my rings plentiful. I prefer gold over silver but mixing is allowed. I've selected my dream pieces, a few of which every stylish girl should own or at least covet.
Clockwise from left; gold Rolex (Men's), Cartier Love bracelet, Chanel gold link bracelet (find a great vintage one), Jade Jagger Skull bracelet, Hermes Collier de Chien bracelet, Iosselliani stacked rings, gold signet ring, vintage Chanel earrings and Hermes H bracelet

Bikini Kill 2008

How many of you are heading somewhere warm for the winter break? Are you ready to don your teeniest bikini or have you fallen victim to the Thanksgiving-Christmas 15? Don't worry, a tanned bod is a hot bod no matter what so shed those inhibitions and get beautifully bronzed.
In the market for a new bathing suit? My top bikini brands are Missoni, Pucci and Zimmerman while J. Crew is the best place for well priced swim suits in all sizes.

Whether you like gothic, organic, animals, florals or the classic large stone, there is a ring out there for you. What to Wear: X-Mas Shopping

Over the next two weekends every mall is going to be jam packed with last minute shoppers scrambling to get their holiday shopping done. While I am sure you have finished your gift buying, there is always room for gifts for yourself! During the 'Season of Sales' wearing light layers prevents you from overheating while doing some serious shopping. Try layering tank tops, sweaters and blazers with skinny jeans and tall boots. Also, depending on where you live, opt out of the heavy jacket, as you will probably be inside a mall all day anyway. A light scarf can double as a headband in a desperate hair moment.

Must Have

Every little girl dreams of owning one of these babies when she grows up. Whether it is the Kelly, Birkin or Constance, Hermes is the ultimate 'It Bag'.
My fav Hermes bag is the Kelly. Some people prefer to be conservative in their Kelly opting for beige, black or brown. Others believe they should flaunt their Kelly and go for bright pinks, blue or even peacock feathers. I personally love the ostrich skin Kelly or a vintage black croc Kelly.
The Constance is my other favorite Hermes bag. The white and navy ones above are available at Vintagecouture.com. If I could have any Constance it would be a green croc one like Ashley Olsen. Boy, that girl has style......
Must-Have

A leather biker jacket is a wardrobe must-have. Season in and season out, these babies will always keep their cool. Personally, I go for the vintage ones because they are already worked in for you. Here are a few of the hottest and chicest biker jackets available

A Study in Neutrals - 3.1 Phillip Lim

Phillip Lim is truly a master of design. Using neutral tones; white, beige and gray, Lim has the ability to create the most amazing wardrobe staples. The items above are from past and present 3.1 Phillip Lim collections. My favorite items are the beige fur jacket and the white draped column gown. I threw a gold cuff into the mix because I believe that it is the perfect accessory for a neutral palette.

Obsession #1

Comme des Garcons has always played against the fashion rules. Rei Kawakubo always designs unusual and exceptional collections in her signature color, black. However, in 2006 color made its way into the CDG collection in the form of leather wallets. Bright blue, deep red, kelly green and metallic gold, embossed with flower or star patterns, the Comme des Garcons wallets are a must-have and a timeless staple. Besides, no matter what happens, a wallet always fits.
Find them at Shopbop, Otte, Tobi and of course, Dover Street Market

Red is the new Black

Every fashionable woman has a pair or two of red soled Louboutins in her closet. If you are going to invest in a pair, try starting with the simplest style, something you can wear forever like a classic pump.
For those more adventurous shoppers, the Rodita Zip platforms or a pair of ankle booties might be more your speed.

And now for some shoe-porn, I give you the spiked Louboutin for Rodarte. Impossible to come by and almost harder to wear, they are the ultimate hard core accessory. For an even better picture of these beauties go to jakandjil.com.
