Models have always been one of the most important aspects of the Fashion industry; inspiring designers, setting trends and embodying fashion. The Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring exhibition will explore the relationships between the top models of the 20th century and the designers they inspired, the beauty they set forth and the fashion they wore. Highlighting the influence of the 'SuperModel'; Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, to name a few, the exhibit will look at how these women shaped the modern day concept of beauty and their impact on the industry at every level.
Spanning half a century, 1947 to 1997, the exhibit will showcase couture and ready-to-wear from each decade and the models who made it fashionable. "The exhibition will examine a time line of fashion over the past 100 years through the paradigm of the fashion model," said Harold Koda, Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute. "We look at the power of clothing, fashion photography, and the model to project the look of an era." This ode to the model will be showing at the Met from May 6th to August 9th.
