Festival 101: Glastonbury

Summer is in full swing and music festivals are popping up all over the globe. First Coachella in mid April then Bonnaroo in June and most recently a hop over the pond for some British rock'n'roll in the form of Glastonbury Music Festival. Models, musicians, legends and Kate Moss all come out for the five day festival and fashion is as integral to the atmosphere as the bands performing. Taking cues from the likes of Alexa Chung and Jameela Jamil, light and airy layers are the way to go and top it all off with wayfarers and stylish yet roomy messenger bag.

Mix denim separates or layer a chambray button down over a girlie dress for a boyish edge. Strappy sandals keep feet cool while the protection of a motorcycle boot or a Hunter wellie is desirable to avoid muddy patches. Practicality and fashion go hand in hand at a festival so leave you heels and Hermes bags at home.

Let's Go PLAY

An on-stage and off-stage favorite of Dan Kanter, the Comme Des Garcons PLAY line is comprised of T shirts, polos, sweater and button downs featuring their signature heart in a variety of colors. Once a unique line only found in Japan, the PLAY line is now available across North America in specialty boutique and online.

Most recently Converse teamed up with CDG PLAY to make a special edition line with the signature heart. The shoes come in high tops and low tops in black or beige.

Prints Charming: Cacharel Resort 2011

Created in 1962, Cacharel has been well known through out the years for their youthful style, femininity, lightness, use of bright colors and especially their unique prints. Always marching to their own drum, Cacharel has managed to stay a float through the 80's, 90's and even the new millennium due to their originality. I absolutely love the cosmic nature of the prints in their 2011 Resort collection and can wait to mix and match these patterns.

MMVA 2010 Red Carpet: Best Dressed

The MMVAs were this past weekend in Toronto and the red carpet was chock full with a variety of different looks. Katy Perry was very much a California Gurl in her skin tight Ashish sequin one shoulder mini with side cutouts. Ashley Greene kept her look simple and elegant in Isaac Mizrahi while Whitney Port opted for an unusually printed Moschino strapless mini. Shenae Grimes worked the goth look* complete with giant cross and Jess Szohr was red hot in a down to there neckline.
Other highlights included Katy arriving in an ice cream truck and treating fans to some free goodies; Justin Bieber and Drake arriving together via Maybach and the boys from Marianna's Trench made their way down the red carpet in a hot tub.
*Shenae was clothing from Toronto Queen St. store JacFlash.

CFDA Fashion Awards 2010: Best Dressed

The 28th annual CFDA Awards took place this week and the designers were out on the town with their muses in tow. Lara Stone and Dree Hemingway represented Calvin Klein while Dakota Fanning and Hana Soukupova wore Marchesa. Gwyneth looked statuesque in Michael Kors, who was awarded the Geoffrey Beene Livetime Achievement Award, and Alexa Chung kept it cool in Marc Jacobs, named Womenswear Designer of the Year. Sarah Jessica Parker honored her late friend Alexander McQueen by wearing a beautiful gown from his most recent collection and Whitney Port was very much the Grecian goddess in a slinky silver David Meister halter gown.
Other winners of the night were Alexander Wang for Accessory Designer and Richard Chai for Menswear.
Tommy Ton was there capturing the excitement as the guests arrived. Here are a few moment in time.....

My Picks: Creatures of Comfort

The summer is upon us and all I want to wear are cute and airy dresses. The Opening Ceremony dress above is perfect for an afternoon downtown or a night out on the town. The Christian Wijnants dress features a new trend - the abstract print - in a classic black and white color palette. Rachel Comey's day dress is great with a pair of sandals for a Sunday brunch and the Electric Feathers navy gauze jumpsuit can be worn anytime for a 'throw on and go' look.
For the beach, don't forget a great backpack filled with sunscreen and a towel and cool sunnies like the Alexandra Cassaniti pair with 'X'ed lenses. The gold crackled boots by Rachel Comey are a staple piece, worn with jeans or a dress in the summer, fall or spring.

Style Study: Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin has the uncanny ability to rock a pixie do, take fashion risks and make it all look simple as pie. Her red carpet look is always vibrant while she reserves neutral tones for day wear and a casual night look. She gives off a slight androgynous feel while at the same time has a girlie appeal. I love her Mia Farrow- doe eyed look and she rocks it in everything from Chanel to Dior to Opening Ceremony.

New for Spring/Summer 2010: Elizabeth and James

New for the Spring/Summer 2010 season Elizabeth and James, the Olsen's contemporary clothing line, is introducing a collection of sunglasses and are upping the ante on their jewelry line by using rough cut diamond and sapphires.
Can't wait to get my hands on a pair of the "Fairfax" cat eye styled sunglasses!
