Fashion Film

Some of my favorite movies are also famous for their costume and wardrobe. Fashion is such an integral part of every day life and of every era that it can play it's own role in a movie. From "Almost Famous" with the hippy 60's and 70's fashion to Sofia Coppola's rendition of "Marie Antoinette" with the opulent clothing of Louis XVI's court, the grungy style of Winona Ryder in "Reality Bites" and the mod clothing from the 1967 classic "Valley of the Dolls" fashion was center stage.
The most memorable fashion moments in film, in my opinion, are Diane Keaton's menswear/womenswear juxtaposition in Woody Allen's "Annie Hall" and the very 90's Beverly Hills style of Cher and Dion in "Clueless".

The New Classic

Pendelton has recently collaborated with Opening Ceremony and Urban Outfitters taking the hundred year old company into the 21st century. Originally inspired in 1909 by Native Indian patterns, the new editions come in bright colors and new shapes that are targeted towards a young, hipster crowd. I personally love the blankets and the small purses, great for a night out or thrown on with a pair of jeans.

Shopaholic's Fall Must-Haves

A lot or a little, real or faux, fur is back and the fur vest is the topper for the fall season. Belt it over an army style jacket, wear open with a jean jacket and mini dress or throw on with jeans, a slouchy sweater and sky high boots. The options are endless and you will stay warm while looking fashionable.
The camel coat is replacing the black car coat of days past and adds a colorful dimension to the changing of the season. Paired with chambray button downs and crisp whites, the Camel coat is a mainstay of the season.
I can't wait to get my hands on an aviator style shearling coat a la Burberry or Balenciaga. Shaped like the motorcycle jacket, the shearling aviator will go with everything from jeans to black pants and has a rockers edge. Cruelty free fur is en vogue this season so layer it on and mix it up, PETA won't mind.

Girl of the Moment: Kaya Scodelario

Every since my girlfriends got me into the BBC teen drama ''Skins" I have been in love with Kaya Scodelario who plays Effy. Her piercing looks, insanely perfect smokey eye make-up, rocker chic style and 'fuck it' attitude gave her a hard edge and made her captivating to watch on the screen.
After taking over the lead role in the third season of "Skin", Scodelario ushered in a new era of tough and independent female leads on teen TV shows who were not victimized by males and instead 'one of the boys'. Hopefully coming out with a full feature film in the near future, "Skins" ended their 4 season run this year and I am truly sad to see it go. If you have never watched an episode, do it now, it will change your life.
Catch Kaya in the box office film "The Clash of the Titans".

Miu Miu New Fall 2010 Campaign

The Miu Miu Fall 2010 ad campaign has a certain look to it that was inspired by a favorite model of mine and was recently pointed out by a friend with a discerning eye (thanks Jess). Blond, buxom beauties with piercing eyes graced the ads reminding me (and everyone else) of one striking model in particular however she was nowhere to be found in the actual campaign. Any idea who we are talking about?

Retro Couture: Valentino Fall 2010

The new Couture collection from Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who have taken over at Valentino, is cute and light with a 60's mod flair. Mini dresses covered the runway and details like flowers and bows were gigantic and exaggerated, making a bold and youthful statement. Very much a collection for the ingenue, I couldn't imagine any self respecting Woman wanting to wear what appears to be a bird cage on her body, Valentino's replacements haven't let me down but haven't wowed me either....
