The 2012 Met Gala: The Prada

Last night's Met Gala, entitled Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, honored the dynamic fashions of war time  designer Elsa Schiaparelli and contemporary queen Miuccia Prada. While no one seemed to be wearing vintage Schiaparelli, the red carpet was littered with Prada, good and bad.

Eva Mendez played it safe in a bright orange strapless gown with peplum and oversized beading while Carey Mulligan looked like a space aged fish. Amber Valleta proved that less is more and color blocking is still hot while Diane Kruger made her first fashion mistake. Chloe Sevigny rocked a very youthful Miu Miu mini complete with exposed undies and Linda Evangelista was stoic in a simple black gown with a bubble peplum. Angela Lindvall mixed prints and covered up while Gwyneth Paltrow showed a bit too much skin (and side boob). Lastly, Anna Wintour's gown featured a lobster which was a nod to Schiaparelli's whimsical style and Hailee Steinfeld looked like she was going to prom.

The 2012 Met Ball: The Bad

Always a place where over the top is acceptable, this year's Met Gala saw some horrid and horrifying looks.

Kirsten Dunst channeled Emilia Earhart in a bad suit while Kirsten Stewart proved that she should NOT have been chosen as the Balenciaga muse (Nicolas, what were you thinking?!). Anya Rubik tries to one up Angelina Jolie in Anthony Vaccarello while Lana del Rey looks like Morticia Adams in Altuzarra. I can't even begin to understand why Elizabeth Banks wore this Mary Katrantzou gown, it looks like it is suffocating her.

Leighton Meester's face is as shiny as her Marchesa gown while Christina Ricci's Thakoon gown looks like it is on upside down. Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen is a walking wedding cake and the pit stains on Mia Wasikowska's Prada gown kind of make me want to gag.

The 2012 Met Ball: The Good

The annual Metropolitan Gala honoring Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada was last night and the red carpet was bursting with crazy couture. Here is a round up of my favorite looks:

Citrus hues were all over the crimson carpet ranging from bright yellows to bold oranges

Top L-R: Coco Rocha in vintage Givenchy, January Jones in Versace, Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy, Emma Roberts in Escada.
Bottom L-R: Kristen Bell in Hilfiger, Kristen Wiig in Stella McCartney, Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhullier, Emma Stone in Lanvin.

On the other end of the color spectrum are pastels, also a huge trend this season and there was no lack of blush and lavender on the red carpet
